How to protect IC column

In order to prevent overloading of the IC column due to the high chloride concentration I use onguard Ag cartridge. I am afraid that Ag traces will damage the IC column. That is why I need to add onguard cartridge in H+or Na+ form. Which of them is preferable?

H+ is more easily displaced than is Na+

That is clear. But H+ catridge will reduce pH.

Before injection, can you put the sample solution into a syringe and pass through a silver cartridge to remove the chloride BEFORE injection? We've used Grace/Alltech Maxi-Clean Ag to do that, worked good.

I admit that I never did assay for trace Ag+ in the filtrate though...

Ok, so you have to decide the extent to which that is a concern. My guess is that unless you are injecting a *huge* sample, it should not be a problem.
