Derivatization of pesticides

Hi

I need to make a method to analyze Dicamba in water samples. I would prefer to use gc-ms for this. In this case it is best to derivatize dicamba. If dicamba is extracted from the water into an organic solvent this can be done with diazomethane. My problem is that I would like to do the derivatization in the water. Does anybody know a way to derivatize dicamba when it is dissolved in water? :?

You may try acetic anhydride or butyl chlorformate. Both could be used for derivatization in water. Read the following article

Thank you. I already use acetic anhydride for phenols but I thought it only worked when the OH-group was attached directly to the ring. The other one I did not know but I will try it.

Now I don´t know what Dicamba is, but here is my recollection with diazomethane derivatization of fatty acids: The acids react so much faster than water or methanol that their presence is unimportant, also given that one has a large excess of diazomethane (in ether). A certain amount of MeOH (or water??) even functions as a sort of catalyst. Now, if my memory fails me here please correct this.
