Hello,
I want to monitor a reaction by GC-FID technique. The reaction medium is Aqueous:Organic (50:50). I want to dilute 0.05mL of reaction mass to 2mL diuent (Organic) and analyse by direct injection. My question is 1. whether this will deterioate the column
2. whether injection of samples containing water in FID reduce the sensitivity

Santosh

For that concentration of water, it's no problem and the column is OK.
The sensitivity is not affected with that amount of water vapor

The water will not hurt the column, but if you have strong acids, strong bases or salts in that water, they can cause a problem.
