Couple Agilent 1100 series to Hitachi Merck

Discussions about HPLC, CE, TLC, SFC, and other "liquid phase" separation techniques.

Hi there,

Well I've never tried to combine my Agilent HPLC to a Hitachi DAD so please forgive me if I might ask stupid things....

So I have:
- the DAD (Hitachi MErck L-4250 UV/VIS Detector)
- Agilent 35900E A/D converter
- Agilent Chemstation Rev. A 9.....
- a couple of cables including a LAN cable.....

Could someone please explain the procedure step by step so that I can start actually working with the HPLC.... ??
Thx a lot :D

Is the computer connected to the 1100 stack by GPIB or with LAN cable to the jet-direct card?

If LAN, then the jet direct card must be in a module other than the Agilent detector commonly used.

You must go into Configuration Editor and add the 35900E. We have two of 35900E ustin revision A.09 ChemStation; one is GPIB and one is LAN, work fine, transparent once set up.

do I have a third possibility? It's neither a LAN not a GPIB... GPIB use to have a rectangular shape right? THe HPLC stack is connected with a round connector.... I know that sounds kind of stupid but I have absolutely no clue how to solve my problem.... I do have jet-direct card in the interface.

anad by the way: do I have to connect the detector somehow to the autosampler?

If your jet-direct interface is connected directly to the computer, then you have a LAN system. You will need to set up the 35900E in Configure Editor with its IP address (look in the 35900E installation manual) and with a LAN cable.

Your 35900E, in the back, will have sockets A and B for signal cables; you need to connect that to the new detector. You'll also need to connect the new detector to the remote socket (A or B) on rear of 35900E to get it to balance at the beginning of the run.

If you run into trouble Agilent 1-800-227-9770 can help by telephone, request telephone help. Free.

The 1100 system gets connected to the PC via a jetdirect card into the LAN port of the PC....the 35900E also comes in two flavors either LAN or HPIB (if you have a LAN version get a hub then connect the 1100 + 35900E to the hub and the hub to the PC). If you have an HPIB the you will need to get the HPIB card that fits into the slot of your PC.

The remote start/stop cable from the Hitachi will connect to the remote star/stop on the 35900E.

Once you connect the 1100 via the jetdirect card to the PC and the Hitachi DAD to the 35900E you will only be able to get 2D data in Chemstation, you will be able to control all of the functions of the 1100 BUT you will not be able to control the DAD from Chemstation.

There's also a 35900E Chemstation Software ( needs a driver license number to activate) that you need to load from the Chemstation disk so that you can collect data from the 35900E.

FYI the data you will see will be 2D only...

Well first of all thank you for all your replies!

Here is what I did so far:
The DAD seems to be analog so I connected it to the analog channel A at the interface. The DAD does not have any slot for remote so Ih ope this will work with the described connection

I connected the interface via LAN to the same card to which the Agilent is connected. As I already posted the HPLC connection looks like coaxial cable (at least it is round....).

I tried to assign an IP address to the interface (in the BootIP window) and then tried to add the interface with the Chemstation configurator.

Now here is the problem: once I start Chemstation it tells me: "Can not talk to A/D interface. Please check...."

Any idea what my problem is? (well it is kind of obvious what the problem is but anyway: has anyone a solution?)

You will need to add the 35900E to the Chemstation under configuration editor....just if you were adding an additional HPLC to the system....if your 35900E cable from the box to the PC is about .5 inches it's an HPBI box.....and that cable need to be connected to the PC via a HPIB card.
IF the cable is a LAN cable....go to a hub, and add the 35900E in the configuration editor as a llan IP address....

it's not a simple matter to do....did you call the Agilent toll free number....they are relatively well adapted to work you through it by phone.
bonjour je cherche de la documentation le manuel ou autre pour un L-4250 UV-VIS MERCK pour son utilisation et le réglage

merci
cordialement
