hello to all forum
I need some help
in our laboratory we have a gas chromatograph (Varian CP-3800) coupled to a mass spectrometer (Varian 1200)
Yesterday we decided to change the capillary column and when we put the new column, do not know the exact length of column that is inserted into the chromatograph injector (mod. 1079) and the transfer line to mass spectrometer
if anyone can help me, I would be eternally grateful

Juanma,

I don't have a Varian but normally is simply a matter to adjust the distance of the column (on my systems the column is protuding 1-2 mm from the heated transfer line). If your system doesn't allow a direct visual control use a septum to mark the correct position.

You should have a user manual where the procedure is described.

https://snri.ucmerced.edu/snri/eal/Vari ... 914978.pdf (it's not the same instrument but maybe you can find something useful at page 127 of the document).

hello bhuvfe

firstly I would like to thank you for the information that you have provided to me
as you well say, the ideal is that had visual access to the termination of the capillary, but the ionization source of spectrometer prevents me.
I saw the link you put in your post and I must say that the information is very good, but the transfer line is different from the one we have installed, thus, distances are not the same
finally inserted until the end of the column and stepped back about 5mm and then tighten the nut.
for now it seems the instrument works well, but I would be under vacuum pressure, but I imagine that when within one day get it.

I repeat, thank you for your help

receives a greeting

Juanma
