I have an Agilent 1100 HPLC connected to a WinXP computer and installed Chemstation A.05.01, which is compatible with the firmware of the HPLC system. The equipment is connected by LAN, the IP addresses are correct and data transfer between the computer and the HPLC is working when pinged. But when I try to open ChemStation, I receive the following error:

"A Device 1 line must be specified in Win.ini"

and I cannot open the program. Does anyone know how to solve this :?:

Thank you,

You can open the win.ini file with Notepad. The file is only a text file.

Gasman

OK, but how do I fix the problem of specifying a Device 1 line in Win.ini?

Thank you,
Are you aware of the fact that HP ChemStation for HPLC Revision A.05.## IS NOT supported or compatible with either the LAN Communication protocol OR Windows XP Pro O/S ? Both were introduced later on.

The first version of ChemStation which supported the new LAN communication protocol for the 1100-Series HPLC system started with Revision A.06.01 (we always recommend at least Rev A.07.01 due to bug issues and the fact that Y2K issues were not fully addressed). All versions support HPIB control. Your version of ChemStation requires an HP brand HPIB interface card (82341) and computer with a legacy ISA bus to use it.

The first version of ChemStation software which supported Windows XP Pro O/S was Revision A.10.01. Revision A.05.01 supports Windows NT 4.0 WorkStation with S/P 3 (though we have had no problems running it with S/P 5).

Most clients who wish to use a modern O/S with their instrument choose to purchase ChemStation for HPLC Rev A.10.01 to A.10.04 and take advantage of the RJ-45 based LAN control and networking. Revision A.10.## is also very stable and reliable. You could also upgrade to a 'B' revision of software too, but will not gain any increased performance or features with your system.

Where can I find a version of Chemstation A.10.02? We already have a licence number for the program.
