Hello, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am quite a newbee to HPLC, that is why my questions may sound funny. Sorry in advance. Funny thing is doing it all the other end, but... We have a HPLC system and would like to employ it. And highest interest is for antibiotcs residues and organophosphorus pesticides assays. We have Agillent 1200 with MWD.

I would like to find out if this detector is applicable for tetracycline and phosphorus organic pesticides. Thing is all methods I found requires DAD, but if there is so little difference between MWD and DAD...

And then, could this HPLC with MWD be used for sreening of penicillin, nitro phurane, chloramphenicol, lasalocide, nithroimidazole residues?
I have tried to find the answers myself, but only managed to find methods for HPLC-MS.

As I understand it, the Agilent MWD and DAD have very similar optics, and differ only in that the DAD can obtain full absorbance spectra while the MWD is limited to only 8 discrete wavelengths at a time. Any method originally done on a DAD (or "PDA" from other vendors -- same thing, different acronym) can probably be run on the MWD.

If you are looking at methods originally run by LC-MS (and particularly by LC-MS/MS), there is a good chance that you will *not* be able to run them successfully on your system. LC-MS/MS in particular is capable of much greater sensitivity and can work with much more complex sample matrices compared to LC-UV.
