Our lab currently has a Dionex ICS 1600 system set up for low-level anion analysis using an IonPac AS22 4x250mm column, a AERS 500 4mm suppressor and a DS6 Heated Conductivity Cell. We basically run a modified version of EPA 300.0 for our method. The system has been running great and has not really needed any maintenance or care for years, other than a few weird hiccups.
We have a customer that would like us to do analysis of Cations, so I was wondering what it would take to temporarily convert the system we have to be able to do this. I know we would have to get a new column and create a new eluent, but I would like to know of any other changes or implications for switching over this system for cation analysis. Would this suppressor and this detector work for cations? (I'm not sure what they want specifically, but I will assume something like Na+, K+ and NH4+...) Is there a risk in messing up our perfectly operating system to try and do this?
