For those of you who may not know yet, Andy Alpert passed away on Monday, May 29th. https://memorials.sollevinson.com/andre ... t/5200982/

He is widely known in the chromatography community as the father of HILIC. He will be missed.
Rats!!

I've known Andy for over forty years; he was a frequent and valued contributor to the Forum.

The depth of his knowledge about chromatography was coupled with his courtesy and a willingness to provide detailed answers to even the rawest of "newbies" without talking down to them. He will truly be missed!

It's very hard to put some things into words: a handful of names stay in my mind for ever, associated with this site, and associated with kindliness combined with huge technical knowledge, the willingness to answer newbie questions with not the faintest trace of condescension, the humility to accept that nature is complicated, and to be willing to help anyone who's run into problems with their chromatography. Andy Alpert's name is high in that list.

I would write that he leaves a terrible hole for those of us who work with Hilic, but the thing is that during his life, he already did so much to fill that hole, by publishing such good papers explaining Hilic, and by his unstinting help and lucid explanations to anyone who got stuck with their Hilic, and that's the mark of a truly great person.

But we're going to miss him, dreadfully.
