For waters HPLC UV detector, what peak area count range is considered as normal for an active peak? Is there a general rule for the assay level and impurity level?
Thank you for your help.

No there is no specific limit for the peak area but there are limits for signal to noise..

Generally most peak areas should be within 2.0%RSD and impurities 5-10%RSD, depending on the quantitation levels.

My personal experience:
Assay: UV absorance <1.5 absorance Unit, typically 0.6-0.8
Area: 200~5000
Impurity level:
peak area <200
