Their quality was "suspect" for a while several years ago (when they relocated manufacturing, employees knew they were going to be let go etc. etc.), but we have a 2010 in the lab and run it lots and lots - no problems yet. Newer instruments are performing well as far as I've heard.
Thanks,

The company I used to work for (until recently) had 5 Shimadzu LCs (using Class VP software)(1 is a prominence model), 2 GCs, and 1 GC-MS. The LCs in particular were very heavily used. For the 3 years I was there, I experienced very little problems (apart from the normal wear and tear). So I don't really mind Shimadzu equipment.
However, do look into other brands such as Waters, Agilent, and so on. Their quality and superb reputation make for high recommendation as well.
All salesperson from each of these companies were very friendly and helpful, so do take time to explore all avenues.
Hope the above puts your mind at rest....

The company I work for has a new Shimadzu LC prominence which I'm responsible for. We bought it in January and so far it's working just fine. The only thing to complain about is the software LCsolution, it's not always straight forward so to say. You need to think in a “Japanese wayâ€

Not sure how much this helps, but here's my 2 cents anyway -
I've heard a lot of strong opinions about Waters vs. Shimadzu... word on the street here in the Midwest is that some years ago (10 +/- ?) one of the big guys had a terrible rep - so bad they basically pushed clients into the arms of the other. The company still hasn't recovered from it...
Now that I know that, I am always careful to ask for specifics, even if it the opinion of a person I really like/trust... I have run into several cases of "inherited" dislike of one company over the other. I.e. A preson was offended first hand by this rep, and they told everyone they trained about what junk that brand is... now people hate it without knowing why.
Anyhow, eyes open, get the specifics.

Folks,
We have used LC Shimadzu Prominence with satisfactory results and performance. Equipment is robust and working properly. Obviously some troubles occour but they have been overcame. When people are foccusing the price it should be a good choice.
Humm... I am not earning no cent from the Japanese guys, ok?!

hello,
We have the shimadzu prominence for a year now without any problems and it is often used. The shimadzu LC software is not the best but for you not interesting since the Analyst MS software will do the job.
