What is the purpose of using Sodium Sulphate unhydrous in sample preparation along with water for test of Residual solvents by GC
Sitaram B.

The things that comes to my mind right now, regarding your question are:

- The usage of Na2SO4 in gas chromatography, in tests for organic volatile residual solvents, is to bind the residual water from the matrix solvent used to prepare the standards/samples; and

- If used in headspace-GC, it will probably serve as "salting out" agent, in order to increase the mass transfer of (semi)volatile analytes from the liquid into the gas phase (witnin the headspace vial).
