Purge and Trap attached to GC

I am currently using a Tekmar LSC2000 P&T in combination with a HP 5890 GC. The current setup has the deactivated column from the heated line directly passing through the septum of the GC injection port. As it stands there isn't a leak showing up in the results but I feel the setup looks a little precarious to work as a permanent design. Has anyone had much experience with the P&T and GC combination and can recommended a "better" arrangement? Thanks for any help in advance.

How is the transfer line end secured on the injection port? Are you saying that the tip of the transfer line is punctured through the septum?

If so and you have any say in the matter, you can order an injection port weldment adapted for a P&T transfer line for about $300-400 from Restek.

You really have two options for the carrier, depends on the design of the Tekmar. One is to run all the carrier through the HS, the second is to run a partial carrier stream through the HS. In my experience, the first option is more common and easier to understand. We had a GC here that someone had set up with a small bore carrier line shoved through the septa (it was for an LSV). It's worked for years that way. Never understood why they didn't just cut the carrier line and install the LSV there.

The major disadvantage of plumbing a purge and trap or headspacer transfer line into the carrier gas feed line is that it exposes the sample to a length of undeactivated, unheated metal pipe.
