Anyone has experience in using GC MS type of analysis for brominated aromtics and olefins in crude?

Crude oil can be a mess. What sort of cleanup procedure will you do. Alumina or silica cleanup? Toluene elutes aromatics and aliphatics. Methanol/toluene will get nitrogen compounds and 100% methanol for more polar stuff.
