Purge and Trap - Glycol Ethers and their Acetates Problem

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

I am using Atomx XYZ Purge and Trap system from Tekmar combined with GCMS Agilent system.
The problem is when I using Purge and Trap for analyse Glycol Ethers and their Acetates in pure water (Conc: 100ppb), it seemed like gas could not purge these VOCs and GC did not detect any compounds in this group.
I've searched solubility of these compounds in water (about 1000g/L, so high).
So my question is "Should I add some salt or any other kinds to make purging efficiency better?" and "Is it good for my Purge and Trap system?"

Please help me! Many thanks!

I wouldn't add salt because that can plug the lines over time and build up in the concentrator sparge tube.

Do you have the capability to heat the sample in the sparge tube when purging? If so try purging at 40c or even 60c. There will be more water on the trap but maybe you can get the analytes out of solution.

Normally such analytes are run as a direct aqueous injection using FID, but I think the MS would handle it also. Just be sure to inject 0.5ul or less.
The past is there to guide us into the future, not to dwell in.

My system has the heater for sparge tube and I will try this.
Because I am testing this system so I have to run on it instead of direct injection.
By the way, many thanks for your help!
