Hi Burt,

You asked a good question which may have an obvious answer. Given:

The same sample is injected on two different columns.

On the first a peak is seen eluting.

On the second no peak is seen eluting.

Now what is the obvious answer? (there are at least two obvious answers)

1. The peak was absorbed on the second column.

2. The peak is eluting in another place, perhaps under an existing peak.

Which one is true? #1 or #2 or both #1+2 may be the truth.

I don't know the performance of the columns Burt is using. Every brand of a particular phase capillary column IS NOT EQUAL in every situation and may give different results to this issue and to others.

So unless you want to do a bit of research, Burt, I believe there is no single correct answer.

best wishes,

Rod
