Hm, I tried that trick using cyclodextrins (from a patent on renaturing proteins) in SEC of antibodies (MAB): No luck. Of course, often denatured proteins chromatograph better or solvate better than natural ones. I mentioned that before: Quite some time ago some long-time protein chemists warned me that proteins are often to be considered as individualists. (But it´s quite surprising that TFE should be renaturing of sorts, so: I would appreciate if you could e-mail the article or contact me privatly).

Checking the internet it looks like TFE behaves somewhat similar to other alcohols, especially ETOH. It apparently also helps dissolution at some concentrations IN H2O, depending on the protein...., or denatures, or renatures depending on ??? I guess proteins are still largely mysterious.
