Hello,

We have a Agilent 240 AAS (atomic absorption spectrophotometer) with SpectrAA software.

We have a situation with this software and maybe someone else have the same situation.

After the analysis it`s finished and person want to sign the results, if he enters a high number of characters on "Comment" section before signing the results the worklist it`s getting "corrupted." That means we can`t see the audit trail on software for that worklist and we can only see the audit trail if we print the results.

The service engineer told us that the reason for this situation it`s the high number of the characters we enter in comment section after the analysis, but he can`t say what it`s the limit number of characters.

My question it`s: somebody have the same problem and know what it`s the limit of the characters on that field?

Any info that can help us it`s highly appreciated.

Check in embeded help in SpectraAA or in it's documentation. There should be information on permissible number of characters in every field.

You can test it but I imagine the limit is 255 characters. This was the ASCII string length limit from years ago and many programs and databases still have this limit even though we are far beyond using 8-bit computing. Some things die hard.

This isn't actually related to ASCII - you can have as many of ASCII characters as you want in a file/database/etc. 255 is just an arbitrary constraint that software developers decided to apply based on how they thought this system would be used.

Hi, apologies for piggybacking off of this thread but would it be possible to be provided with a copy of SpectrAA? I'm working with setting up an older Varian 240 and currently the software is the missing link. My email is: driggle@yandex.com

Were I to get the software somehow, I'm sure I could poke around and attempt to replicate this issue with the comment box.
