I would like to know if I can use a precolumn filter whithout a guard column?

Yes you can, but a precolumn filter gives you less protection than a guard column. If indeed the problem is only particulate debris, then both work equally well. If the problem is something else, guard columns provide a better protection.

Especially useful if the sample matrix is not particularly "clean".
