Hi !
I want to know why do we perform k'Formic Acid/k'Acetic Acid & k'Triphenylene/k'O-Terphenyl to check column performance? how it is related to column chemistry?

k'a / k'b = alpha

alpha for Triphenylene / O-Terphenyl is used to evaluate shape selectivity
for reversed phase columns. The link below has more information on this subject:

Acetic acid / formic acid are not well retained under RP conditions.

Maybe acetic acid / formic acid has been used to evaluate "aqueous" type ODS phases
or anion exchange columns. I'm not sure.
