column with benzene contamination

Our column is contaminated with benzene, I would like to know what we can do to remove it.
We have already tested possible causes such as: syringe, injector, solvent ...

What column are you using? Packed or capillary? Phase? Size? Carrier gas?

Different columns may need different solutions to the problem.

Won't that just volatilize and get swept out by the carrier gas at temperature?

The column is the ZB-624, L = 30m ID = 0.53mm.

Nitrogen gas such as drag, hydrogen and synthetic air for combustion.


solvents we use isoctane, hexane, dichloromethane, methanol ... but for this analysis we use methanol.

If baking at maximum temperature for 20 -30 minutes does not remove benzene from that column, it must have some serious non-volatile contamination present.

Have you remove the first 1 or 2 loops of the column? There may be some contamination that adsorbs benzene very well and only releases it when an injection is made and the solvent removes a little each time. Otherwise this phase should not retain benzene if baked well.
