Peak purity(impurity having same spectra)

Basic questions from students; resources for projects and reports.

Dear all,
If impurity peak has a same spectra with analyte peak and it is coeluting with analyte peak, then how will we come to know that there is impurrity merging or how can we detect that impurity?
Regards,
Ajay

A considerably different chromatographic method, and/or entirely different analytical tool (MS, NMR, IR, melting points, carbon hydrogen analysis . . . .) might show this.

If an impurity has exactly the same spctra then you would need a new separation technique, but if they have similar spectra the key to differentiating them is to have more data points across a peak by using an instrument with a high scan rate and deconvolution software
