Hi Could anyone help?
When replacing the valve cartridges at the base of the high pressure pump, do they have to be inserted with the flow in opposite directions? If so, which directions?
Thanks Aman
They should have direction arrows on each cartridge

As I recall, the cartridge for the inlet side goes "UP" (same as flow) and the outlet cartridge points down (same as flow out). *You should have a basic understanding of the solvent flow through the system before performing work on it. Consider a training course or consulting assistance from a reputable company.

You've got one inlet and one outlet checkvalve, usually one on each side of a pumphead oriented in the same direction with respect to flow.
The 1090 is setup a little differently than most, hopefully these images from the manual will help
