purging injector

what solvent is suitable for purging the injector? Mobile phase? 20%Ethanol? water?
Ideally, something that is:
A. miscible with your mobile phase
B. a good solvent for anything that was in your sample
and, if possible:
C. Not stronger than your mobile phase
D. No buffers or salts.
