Dear All,
I just started to work with icp ms for my projects. I work with silicon wafers and I interested in metal impurity concentration. I have some questions regarding the data analysis. I have mass of my sample before digestions and the raw data from icp ms instrument expressed in ppb concentration. What should I do know with my data? I assumed I have to recalculate the concentration. Thank you a lot for your help.

ppb would be ug/l or ng/ml

If final solution volume after extraction of the solid material is 100ml then,

ng/ml for element from instrument = ng/ml x 100ml = ng of element in initial sample

ng element in initial sample / sample weight (g) would = ng/g of element in sample or ppb in sample.

so,

(Instrument value (ppb) x extraction volume (ml))/ sample weight (g) = concentration in sample (ppb or ng/g)
