Nitrogen Evaporator

Discussions about GC-MS, LC-MS, LC-FTIR, and other "coupled" analytical techniques.

Hi everyone,

I am looking into purchasing a nitrogen evaporator to dry down my sample (Pentane/DCM) from 10ml to 1 ml. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a nitrogen evaporator that can dry at least 6-12 samples at a time?

Thanks.

Alvin

Supelco's Visiprep manifold might work for you. What volume are you evaporating? As an environmental chemist, I generally frown on evaporating or even using DCM. Ethyl ether is often a suitable alternative. For liquid/liquid extractions, SPE is often a better choice.

Well I am collecting fractions from my gel column. Each fraction is around 10 ml, which I would like to further concentrate down to 1 ml by Nitrogen dry down.

I am looking into more something like this, but I would like to see if there is more options before I make the purchase. Please check the following link.

Organomation was pretty much the standard when I was growing up. They work very well and with the water bath they will keep chill down to a minimum. On the other hand I am pretty sure Pierce (derivatizing agent maker) also makes a small counter top model with hook tubes that might work for you.

Best regards.

I use my N-Evaps for water to DCM, no problem at all. Just be sure to turn off the heat at the end of the day...

Maybe a TurboVap is an alternative?

FWIW, you can often find Organomation units on ebay for cheap.

This is overpriced, but the pictures are helpful:
