I used to work for Agilent Tech in Del. putting together the 6890 model from the base to the cover but never the components. My new job found out and wanted me to train in the lab because I am the only one who has any idea what they are. We use a Tekmar Headspace with a 5890 series II FID. I noticed their is a lot of noise and I am getting an error of Time Reference compound not found and the material Im testing for is not showing up. Any Ideas first.

He he, where do you work at? It's really hard to pin point your problem with such a limited amount of information. It could be something as simple as the retention time not set right in your method. My advice would be to get Agilent (or someone who knows what they are doing) to come out and get you set up with a working system. If you try and give us every possible detail of your method, we can probably help a bit more.

Check your combustion gases flow rates. Is your air "clean"? If you are using house air I would recommend inline filters . Also check that the restrictors in the gas box are correct for the gases you use.
Good luck
