Since we were acquired by Merck KGaA in February 2008 I think it would be appropriate to change my username.

How to proceed?

Einar,

May I compliment you on your straightforward approach of including your company name as part of your online name?

I'd love to see this done by more posters who are part of commercial concerns. Perhaps we should all include some description of ourselves, just at the level of public/commercial, analytical/management/sales, academic etc.? I see this done in other, non-analytical forums.

There is a thread a little further down in this forum about posters with commerical interests, where someone expressed concerns about posts like "This is really easy. We always use an Elephant-X column from Blogsalytical", and it becomes apparent that the poster works for Blogsalytical.

In fact the issue isn't merely politeness; I believe that in the whole of Europe, it is illegal to make posts that look as though they are recommendations by disinterested individuals, and are actually recommendations by the supplier. For instance, adopting a pseudonym to write rave reviews of your own restaurant, or books of which you author can now cause real trouble. And rightly so!

Most posters here are gentlemen (or ladies), and there's no trouble, but I do notice a certain number of grey-area postings where I can't quite work out whether someone is just a real devotee of Elephant-X columns, or whether perhaps they developed the thing...

Imh,

There is the possibility of including more information about you through the profile function. But I am sure that there are several people that would like to stay anonymous for several reasons.

We get time to time people that will try to pass as users but are actually working for the company that produces these columns. Especially when these posts are unsolicited from first time posters, they are often get deleted from the administrator.

But you know; we are all profesionals and if someone makes a recommendation of how great a column or method is, most of the poeple will take the advice with a grain of salt, unless you have plenty of data to support your claim. Furthermore, for people that are posting regularly, you get an idea of where they are coming from or a lot of times they will disclose it themselves when they recommend a product.

Jade (and anyone else who wants to change their username); e-mail me to arrange it.

It's not immediately obvious, but I'm actually the "owner" of the site.
