Baseline drop in 5890 GC-FID

Hi all,
We're using an Agilent 5890 GC-FID for alcohol analysis. For the past few days we've been getting a baseline drop at around 10 minutes, which equates to about 100 degrees C on the temp programme we're using. We've tried hooking up a new air supply, in case the problem was moisture in our old air supply, but to no avail.

Has anyone any idea what could be causing this baseline drop and how we could fix it?

Hi Marge,

Did you try to clean the FID and cut a piece of the column part connected to the detector? It may help...

Marge,

Can you post a chromatogram and instrumental conditions?

Best regards.

Check if the column nut at the detector side is snug properly , also check your flows to assure all flows for the FID are correct.

It might be worth noting if this baseline drop occurs at the time for a purge off time or gas saver coming on. (or some other event that happens in the run)
