Can I use an HPLC Detector Alone as a Spectrophotometer?

Hi,

I need to detect the change in transmittance spectrum over time. I have a spare HPLC detector made by Shimadzu, SPD-6A. Can I use that to do the job? Is there a "standard" setup for this?

If your UV/VIS HPLC detector is a DAD or PDA, then you sure can!

Many vendors also offer spectrophotometer style flow cells too (not normally needed, as you use stopped flow, but an option).
