Converting 5973 from EI to CI

Has anyone converted a 5973 from EI to CI system? I am wondering how difficult this would be to do given all of the proper parts. I realize that the turbo would need an upgrade (and probably the controller) but what else is involved?

Best regards.

Not yet.... but in my lab comes from another site a 5973 with CI option.
The difference are
-in the source, with large aperture to permit CI gas to flow and different filament
-in the turbo pump: this is really big!
-the instr has external CI controller, and also different transfer line: in this zone there are CI inlet tube to permit flow access the source. There are also some valve to control flow of gases.
And, last but not least, there is a ion gauge installed in the rear of manifold, where "normal" 5973 has a plug. Of course ion gauge has external pressure transducer.

I think that conversion is very hard work to do: the mass spec is different in many many parts.

Good luck

I did it. It is as simple as the ad is in fact. Do not forget to put in the small nut that seal the source.
