Again, I'm really new to GC! So if this question sounds dumb that's why! (I moved this here since it seems like a basic question.)

I work with an HP 5890 series II GC. I do manual injections of about 1 uL. I have run DMSO samples from our QC lab, our research lab, and our manufacturing lab. They all have a small acetone peak. I ran a blank temp gradient and water and there was no acetone in either chromatogram so I know it has to be from the DMSO.

My question is (1) is this a common problem with DMSO, I read some other posts on here that leads me to believe this and (2) why does this happen?
