GC/MS sulfolane method

I am trying to get a sulfolane SIM method to work, i have managed to get some decent peaks but there seems to be more than one with the expected ion ratios. When I run in scan to get a library hit the peaks are drowned in noise, mainly column bleed as the sample is just water and IPA (we are using a DB 5.625 column, no pre-column). Any ideas?

tangaloomaflyer,

What ions are you using at what ratio? Also, why not do an extraction. It would seem to me that this compound would come out of water fairly cleanly with DCM or hexane extraction and you could, possibly, improve your lot with a concentration factor.

Best regards.

Got it to work using a pre-column, that cleaned things up a bit.

I was'nt scanning low enough to get a full spectrum, - doh!

Also did'nt have time to try an extraction, but it seemed to work OK. Not sure why we use the sample/IPA method, a case of "that's what we've always done" I think....
