We recently purchased a HP1050 instrument that is controlled via chemstation vs A.06 on the win95 OS. We can make single injections via the single injection function (Run Method Task) but not multiple using the Run Sequence . On Sequence start we are returned with an error "file information does not exist" and UV signals are not stored. Initially, Run Sequence was working but we had a instrument leak that resulted in an instrument shutdown and the software froze. On rebooting the 1050 modules and chemstation the Sequence error was introduced. We tried the obvious like creating a new sequence but to no avail. Any ideas what could have caused this and more over how to overcome this issue? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm assuming no cables were disconnected when you had your issue. Shut off the computer. Shut off all 1050 modules. Turn on all modules, wait until autosampler finishes initialization. Then turn on computer, then open online ChemStation. Load up Sequence def_lc.S and start from that, Rename and Save. Make a new subdirectory (maybe your old sequence was trying to send data to a directory that really doesn't exist). When it shuts down from something like that, weird things can happen to files.

Agilent likely won't help as your software and 1050 are out of support.

Also check your Sequence Parameters to verify that you have chosen a properly named directory, and assigned a proper file name.

The Auto naming feature gives you a coded, unique name. The prefix and counter gives you more flexibility, but you must specify the prefix.

Finally, remember that in this version, you are limited to 8 characters for the file name.

And the software doesn't like all characters, or blank spaces !!!

In 1050 system is better to turn on VWD first, wait when display shows 1050 VWD then turn on rest of instruments. It is recommended because 1050 VWD has sometimes communication problems with other modules.

Have you tried to create new method (from def_lc.m)? I remember two cases when method was corrupted and problem was solved with this.

It was recommended to us by HP guy when we had problems with stability of our systems. It is true that when we followed this practice, problems disappeared.
It was explained because 1050 VWD was manufactured in Japan, the rest of modules in Germany. Instruments didn't understand each other properly.
