recovery of proteins on silica size exlusion is low..

recovery of proteins on silica size exlusion is low.. i've tried acetate buffer.. phosphate buffer.. both with and without salt.. with and without 10% ethanol.. my protein for lower amounts gives a low protein recovery.. this is on a sillica matrix tsk columns.. any suggestions?? what cud i try?
