Fluctuations in the corona current in APCI -ve mode

I am using Quattro micro API triple quad from micromass (waters). When using the APCI -ve mode corona current fluctuates over a very-very wide range on it's own. This affects the signal stability and mass detection. If I switch to APCI +ve mode there is no fluctuation in the corona current.
The corona current is set through the software.
Any ideas?
