I am trying to calibrate my Gc which is a 5890 Series II model. I am analysing N2, H2, Ch4, CO, CO2 and toluene. I am aiming for a 3 point calibration. I have 2 calibration bottles with different concentrations of the above mentioned gases. I also have one bottle of the above gases along with toluene with mole fraction of .1%. Since for all the compounds I have 3 points I am able to get a calibration curve. However for toluene since I have only one concentration, I am injecting a small quantity of toluene manually usinga 10 uL syringe. I am only injecting .2 uL. However this comes out as a big ugly peak. I would like to know if I can go about calibrating this way since my final experiments the gases are goingt o be mixed with toluene and it will be in a gaseous state. However I am injecting liquid toluene, but my injection port is at 250 degrees celcius which is higher than the boiling point of toluene. Please help. Thanks

You are not able to perform a calibration for toluene except for a single point. But if you are able to measure the other gas components accurately then you can calculate the amount of toluene by difference, 100% minus the total of the other gases.

Of course there will be small errors as the gases you have are not ideal in their behavior but you should be able to perform good analyses.
