Dear All,
Why is the microsoft button for "save" still an image of a 3.5 inch floppy disk?!
And the "print" button a dot matrix printer!

History and clarity is more important than accuracy?

Hey, take things slower ! For years I thought that save button was a picture of a TV set.

Now that I think of it, no wonder....
(1) my microwave gets poor reception of local channels
(2) my cell phone cannot change TV channels
(3) my microwave doesn't change a cup of coffee into popcorn, even though I mistakenly push the "popcorn" button
(4) if computers are so smart, why do they do so many dumb things, like not tell you that the printer is out of paper
(5) if you outsource your consumer help section, customers calling for help why the product won't come out of the container are told they "must reboot".

That reminds me of Dilbert giving his pointy haired boss an Etch A Sketch and telling him its a laptop. His boss said it had crashed so Dilbert told him to reboot he must shake his laptop!
We in the UK are switching over to digital TV soon and guess what - you have to buy more hardware and subscribe more! iplayer on the BBC website and a radio is all I really need! I dont want to sky+ (record) rubbish and never get chance to watch it.

In US TV is going full digital February 2009. Apparently those who get signal from cable or satellite will not be affected, only those who get over-the-air waves.

I'm hoping that a weak signal at my "cabin" will come in perfect when that station changes over, so maybe that would be a plus, as I only get two channels there, as I don't go there that much. They say with digital you either get the signal and it's perfect, or none at all....so no more snow. US gov't is giving out partial rebates for converters for those who have older TVs and over the air reception.

Don't believe the lies. If you get a poor signal on analogue it ain't gonna get better unless they put in a new/bigger transmitter. With digital and a poor signal the picture freezes and jumps on several seconds, Hip Hop tv is not good.

I think the better picture will happen. The local independent channel there (I call it the Frasier channel because they've broadcast the old Frasier show from 9 to 10pm every night for the last four years) has a much clearer picture now than in the past, I think it's because they already switched over instead of waiting for the last second.
