Hi,

Having trouble with an HP G1800A, been out of the lab a while and have been tasked with resurrecting the instrument. Basically, When /I try to run, it want to run an autotune. Unable to autotune due to No peak / peak width = 0. PTFBA appears full, solenoid is firing, changed, Septum, Inlet, replaced colum and ferrules. Pressure is good < 50.

Any suggestions? Also looking for service level password, used to have it but now only have the password not user ID.

All help / comments / dorection appreciated.

Dear Fred try to change the gas calibration tank. Maybe it is empty.
If it's empty can do the autotune.

Thank you for the response.
I have already checked the PFTBA vial and it appears to be full.
Also it sounds like the vial solenoid is firing.

Also no solvent peak or any peaks when 'I run "system check" and
run a sample of acetone or iso or dimethylsulfoxide...

I would like to try and over-ride the autotune but have not figured out how. Which is why I am trying to get the HP "service level" user ID

AM currently waiting for the He sniffer and a fresh He tank
in order to check for leakage.

Try to find the last good tune file and check the multiplier voltage. If you are not getting any peaks at all I would suggest that the multiplier may be bad. I know some of the older design multipliers were only good for 1 to 2 years, so if the instrument has not had a new one recently that may be the cause. It is a little expensive to throw in a multiplier just to check, so I would try to find the last tune, and if the tune voltage is 2000 or above go ahead with the multiplier replacement.

You may be right...

I intend due diligence first
vent system and check filament, filament cable connections
ion source wire check, signal cable connection, and then EM.
I'll order an EM this week.

While I'm in I'll also give the lenses (ion source) a once-over.

Also still believe I have an He leak adn am trying to borrow a hand held leak detector should be sensitive enough for the perceived level of leakage.

Borrowed a thermal conductivity leak detector.
None of the internal connections showed a problem, but a major leak showed up on both the moisture and the oxygen traps. With the purity of the He we get, we are just going to eliminate these from the system.
