I have an HP 5890 using ChemStation Rev. A.10.02 [1757] under Windows XP service pack 3. The XP computer has an 82350 board and runs the GC-FID via an HPIB cable. This setup has been stable for months.

I just got a 7673 autosampler and I'm not fully sure how to install it.

• I have a second HPIB cable, stacked at the 82350 board and tailed at the 1512 controller. Is this right, or should I stack them at the GC and tail them at the 1512 and the 82350 board? does it matter?
• The Help feature within ChemStation mentions the 7673 system when selecting injection options but there are no 7673 options in the ChemStation control features, not even dimmed. Do I need a Chemstation upgrade or add-on for this to work right?
• Finally, I'm at somewhat of a loss when setting the address switch options at the back of the 1512. It seems the five options presented in the 7673 PDF manual ( http://www.aimanalytical.com/Manuals/7673operating.pdf )
  are for configurations that I don't have.

Is there another manual or technical reference I should be using?

I'm retired 2 years now, but am familiar with these systems and "A" revisions, I'll try to help.

The HPIB/GPIB cable is commonly piggybacked to the HPIB on the GC but can really be where you have it, no change. You'll also need a 9-pin remote cable from the GC to the controller box. Obviously the injector cable plugs into the controller box too.

The software does not automatically recognize the 7673; you must exit Chemstation and open "Configuration Editor" and add the 7673 and its code/address to the software. The typical code/address for 7673 is "8".

Ok, I've got the mechanicals working now (vials and syringe all do as they're supposed to) but still have not been able to trigger acquisition.

I'll keep working at it and perhaps make a cable.
