I'm having some difficulty getting this version of ChemStation to run on Windows XP. Under Win2k everything is fine and working but when we try to execute the data analysis portion of the software the window fails to open and the program locks up.

Anyone have some insight into how we can get this to work for XP? I know and understand it's not "technically" supported but I'm sure someone has come up with a patch. I've been doing a lot of work on it and can't seem to figure it out.

Any help or pointers in the right direction is appreciated.

Thanks.

Almost every version of ChemStation can be run on XP, but sometimes a few settings changes are necessary. Did you encounter any problems during installation? And is this an on-line or off-line version?

Were any earlier versions of ChemStation, or other Agilent programs, installed on this computer previously?

Are you trying to run an LC or GC?

Have you tried changing the settings on the XP compatability option?

The changes you speak of are probably what's hanging the program up. There was no problems with installation, and it's an off-line version. Like I said, everything seems to run fine up until the data analysis portion. It doesn't work on any of the 3 XP computers I tried it with.

And this is for GC with no previous Agilent or ChemStation products previously installed.

I've tried running it on XP with the Win2k compatability mode, but I don't know if that's what you're referring to or not.

Thanks for the help guys. I look forward to any new responses.

I have several installations running on XP with no problems at all, but I am now using the B versions. But I know I had the later A versions on XP as well.

Make sure you are have XP Service Pack 2 installed. I know there have been cases of certain Microsoft "updates" interfering with ChemStation operation, but I thought it was a networking issue.

When all else fails, follow the Microsoft standard futility procedure: remove the program and re-install it.

Ensure your XP has the minimal configuration of applications, programmes like Microsoft Office can adversely affect the ability to manipulate data in soem versions of Chemstation.

I'd also try without any networking stuff, just to have the simplest XP system first.

Please keep having fun,

Hope you all dont mind if i give this thread a *bump*

I am experiencing the same problems with chemstation version (G1701BA B.01.00) trying to implement on an xp system. I was hoping one of you experts could give me some advice...

Some details
-Fresh XP install, sp3, only additional app's installed acrobat & vnc. IO libs and chemstation were installed directly after configuring the system and installing drivers. the additional apps were installed after chemstation, these problems were present prior to their installation.

-Chemstation is running in On-Line mode, connected to AD35900E, when have no gc or ms connected currently.

I ran into no problems during the install... After configuring the instrument in MSCONFIG.exe several dll's were in incorrect directory's when i try to lauch Instrument Control. After moving the reported missing dlls from HPCHEM to the MSEXE subdir the Instrument Control opens but still fails to load HP359000.dll, which appears to be communications lib. I have tried placing this dll in every conceivable location to no avail, always fails to load.
I am also getting the same thing as the OP with the data analysis portion. Although my assessment differs in that the program is not locking up (IE Not Responding), it appears to not load any macros, basically the form opens and does nothing

I am stuck, please help!
what do you guys think? Agilent has told me they are not willing to support 15 year old software. I am happy to provide more info, please ask if needed. I going to reinstall again today see if anything changes... will repost if the situation changes

thanks in advance

Hi,
Agilent and unfortunately most other lab computing vendors have not the best software programming practice. Unfortunately, very often a minor OS upgrade or security patch will break the software. We have had lot of problems when upgrading from XPSP2 to XPSP3. For instance the GC-MS ChemStation D series must be upgrade to E1 due to this.

My suggestion is to upgrade ChemStation B1 to ChemStation B4, if your hardware is supported on B4. Otherwise downgrade your OS from XPSP3 to XPSP2 or XPSP1 or even XP. Downgrading your OS is not recommended, especially on a computer connected to a more or less open network. Hope it helps.
