Hello Everybody

I would like to know that what procedure you follow for naming of files of HPLC run. Like File naming, date of run, Compound name, batch Name. So that It can be easily known from file\folder name which run it carry. We want to adopt a uniform file naming procedure and then make SOP of it.

I backup and store TOF data all the time. A batch of specimens with our TOF can exceed 3 GB.

I archive the batches in a folder labeled for the month/year (05-2008). Each data file that belongs in the specific batch is gathered into a file folder which is labeled with the Master Batch Number (MBN). All saved datasets and sequence table files are also gathered in this folder.

So:

Folder 05-2008
Folder MBN 200000
Data Files 1 - 35 with sequence file and saved datasets
Folder MBN 200001
Data Files 1 - 35 with sequence file and saved datasets
Folder MBN 200002
Data Files 1 - 35 with sequence file and saved datasets


Each individual file is labeled as MBN-01 and the consecutive numbering.

200000-3

Our naming convention for HPLC/GC ChemStation Axx.xx versions (limited up to 8+3 chars):

Data files: H8051201.d
H...code which is assigned to analytical instrument
8...last digit of year when data were acquired
05...month ---//---
12...day ---//---
01...injection (limited to max.100 injections per day)

Sequence file: H80512a.s
H...code which is assigned to analytical instrument
8...last digit of year when sequence was created
05...month ---//---
12...day ---//---
a...optional - used only when more sequences are analyzed in the same day (without=1st seq., a=2nd seq., b=3rd seq. ...)

Sequences and data files are separated into folders according to SOP numbers.

For EZchrom we decided to use the same or slightly modified convention.

This is what we do with chemstation

We then add the time the run was started as the final identifier, chemstation then adds a number 1-99 based on the order they are run it.
I'll admit it looks a bit weird but it works for us.
Today would be at 09:18 for the first run.

Yes, it looks weird and I spent several minutes till I understood your system. I suppose that it is easier if you meet your cipher everyday.
