Hi there,
We have a chrompack GC CP-9001 running with a software called MOSAIC for retreiving data only.
Actually, we face alot of problems due to that version of software, it is a DOS version, the PC used is also old due to the compatibility of each other.
We are looking to change the PC, but the limitation is that the software will not work on a newr version of windows.
Could anybody assist us on that? we would appreicate all efforts

Chrompack 9001 under Windows

One option is to run the system with analog data acquisition only. CP9001 has an auto-ranging FID, you would be giving up that feature.
If you want to run under a recent Windows version, you would have to find 2nd hand interfacing modules and second hand software.
Both Varian and Scientific Software (now Agilent) used to have solutions for this old GC, but all these have been discontinued.
The communication used by this GC is very special. For that reason your Mosaic system has a special board inside the PC that is only supported by Mosaic. Later systems either used data acquisition (DAQ) only through the serial port, or they used a module called ComMod to translate the instrument control communication to another protocol. This other protocol required yet another card from varian inside the PC that is discontinued now.

Windows CDS for CP9001

I hostnestly think that it would be more efficient to buy a new GC than to find a 2nd hand CDS for this instrument. Even a second hand HP5890 would be easier to find than the items listed below if money is a concern.
If you must then you have these options:
1. Analog data acquistion, control settings from GC front panel, no instrument control from the PC
- Any modern CDS that can take analog signals. Note: you sacrifice the FID full dynamic range when in auto-range mode. Can only do fixed range on the FID.
2. Use a DAQ only version of Chrompack Maestro aka. Maestro 0. This only uses standard RS232 signals, no instrument control, use GC front panel for settings, full FID dynamic range when in auto-range mode is possible.
3. Use the full instrument control version of Chrompack Maestro II or CP-Maitre (same product, different name). For this you need 3 things in hardware which makes this an unattractive proposition:
a. ComMod interface box (protocol converter)
b. PCNet board, aka. ChromNet board. Be careful: this is an ISA board not supported in modern PCs
c. A PC that still has an ISA slot. Most likely a PC from a industrial PC vendor such as Advantech.
None of the above Chrompack / Varian parts are still on the pricelist. You would have to find everything on the 2nd hand market.
Good luck in your search.

You should also conside that old version of EZChrom support Chrompack 9001. Maybe you can find more info on Agilent website about this..
I know that 3-4 labmans that are using Chrompack 9001 in their laboratories and all are using Chrompack Maestro.
Varian guys maybe can provide you a copy of Chrompack Maestro: even if Chrompack 9001 is not yet available I know they are doing support and maintenance for Chrompack 9001

Hi there,
i have a CP9001 and unfortunately i dont have the ChromNET aka PCNet Card that is needed for Maitre.
Does anyone have the old software that can support this GC over a serial cable?
I think it is very old Maestro which works in Windows 3.11 or even DOS.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Bernd

Hello,
I sent email also.
Yes, I'm sure it is working, I have many. Maybe the problem is the cable, it is not a standard RS232 cable.
Kind regards,
