Hi all, What is the advantage of heating the quad in a single quad MS system from Agilant 7890B GC with 5977B Inert plus MSD, what would be the loss if the technology is not there say Clarus 690 GC with SQ-8T MS model from Perkin Elmer? Which on would be advisable I greatly appreciate your suggestions, thank you in advance.

Heated quads help to keep mid boiling point range compounds from condensing on them over time. It also helps to remove moisture after having the vacuum chamber open for maintenance. I know the 5973 and up instruments are ready to use much faster than the 5971 and 5972 were, which were not directly heated. The 5970 and 5995 were also heated and easier to bring to equilibrium back 25 years ago when I was using those too.

Big advantage is quicker equilibrium after maintenance, smaller advantage is the quads remain cleaner longer.
