Everything seems to be ok, the vacuum pump and everything else, but there are random peaks that show up even when a sample is not injected. Could this be contamination? Or perhaps an electrical issue?

I would suspect electrical. Put a surge protector between the electrical outlet and the NCD.

Always look at the shape of the 'random peaks'. If they are Gaussian, it is unlikely to be electrical. If you have Gaussian peaks, they have come from the column or inlet.
