Varian ProStar, Gallaxie & Hitachi's L2480 Fluores. dete

Hi, I am new to this forum and hope to be of help to somebody some day. Meanwhile, would like to post my question:
Have an almost new Varian ProStar LC and wanted to acquire a fluorescence detector; however, Varian informed that the known 363 FD has been discontinued and offered as a "pass through" solution to sell Hitachi's L2480 fluorescence detector.
According to the sketchy instructions they provided, the detector should be provide analog signal to my LC and I will be able to see the acquired chromatogram in the Gallaxie window; however, I must program the detector from its front panel (not from Gallaxie!!!). In this way I lose (among other things) the "scanning" capability of the detector and the possibility to work with the excitation-emision data matrix. It seems that this beautiful detector becomes just a (manually selectable) single wavelength detector!!!
The Varian salesperson has been systematically avoiding me during the last month and I really need to have some information before deciding to buy the detector.
I wonder, if somebody has been working the L2480; is it there any possibility to interfase it to another comuter (not the PC running Varian's soft, just in case...) and control the detector (and also acquire the chromatogram) employing software such as Ezchrom?
Any information will be welcomed!!!!
Thank you very much in advance.
