Help No emission current !!!

I use an MSD 5973. I do not get any peaks after running a tune and when I try to run a scan under Edit MS parameters I get an error message that says No Emission Current. Initially this would happen randomly and then disappear, but now it is permanent.

The trouble shooting section of the HP MSD manual says to check the filaments and filament cable connections.

Both my filaments are new, the filament connections are good and changing the filament cable has not yielded any changes. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Hi!
normally, this problem is filament or around the filament.....
First, check the resistance of your new filament twith voltmeter.
The wire of filament is connected on a small board in MSD...your problem was random before.....verify the resistance of this wire too.

Hello,

I'm having the same problem in my MSD, please tell me if you find the right solution. I think that the problem is in the topboard, or mainboard.

thank

EnvChemist,

This sounds exactly like a source problem I had several years ago. I cleaned the source several times and even replaced the entrance lens or repeller (don't honestly remember.) Finally swapped out the whole source from another MS and got a good tune. Then had my boss go out and buy a whole new source. If you have another MS available.... (easier said than done, right) I would suggest swapping sources and possibly EM's before accusing the top board.

Best regards.
