Hallo,

we have a hp 5890 Series II GC. The problem is that the display is off, but all lights exept the Initial Time are on. It also doesn't react on any keypress. Our technician found out, that the motherboard is damaged, cause the gc works again with a new board. Does anyone have a connection scheme of the board or something like that. Our technician means that he may repair the old one with the help of such a connection scheme.

Thanks for you help

Tormas,

I do not think that this will be easy. The service manual for the 5890 series ll does not have any circuit diagrams included. It was never the intention for the motherboard to be repaired on site, even by HP/Agilent engineers. They were always returned to the factory where a computer system was needed to trouble shoot and repair the board.

Hallo GasMan,

thanks for your quick answer. I talked again to our technician. He said that it could be useful for him. But he also said that one of these programmed chips may be damaged. And this it a problem he cannot solve. So there is no way around to by a new or used board. But new boards are really expensive :(. Maybe we can organize a used board.

It might be cheaper to buy a complete second hand instrument. There are variations in the board configuration and firmware that could prevent swapping boards. This could well be why Agilent don't repair or replace boards on-site. However we have had board on a 6890 changed on site but the engineer had to tweak the firmware in the rest of the instrument.

fortunatly we have a old 5890 which we use as a replacement part supplier. So we took that board and installed it on the defect one. Now ist works again. But the swapped board is still defect. So there is no possibility to repair the damaged board?
