Hi All,

I'm just wondering what the current naming convention is re: using systems with higher pressures greater than 400 bar to realise LC separations with columns packed with sub-2 micron particles?

Is UPLC strictly a trademark for the Waters Acquity branding or is it being applied to all separations of this ilk be it with an Agilent 1200RR, Jasco X-LC or Thermo Accela.

I'm just thinking of correct terminology we should using for our internal documents - currently I'm using the acronym U-HPLC. Any thoughts / comments anyone?

UHPLC was my first (nontrademarked) thought.

As far as I know, UPLC is a Waters trademark. You could argue that it's simply an extension of HPLC technology and not differentiate it (of course, that same argument was raised 25 years ago with respect to "LC" vs. "HPLC" ).
