solvent for acrolein

Hello everyone,

I try to find a proper solvent to make acrolein standard solution for GCMS.

I know most people use methonal or ethanol but these solvents are not suitable for my purpose. I want to try benzene, hexane, toluene etc.

Does anyone know if acrolein can be dissoved in benzene, hexane or toluene?

I purchase an acrolein standard from a local supplier and it comes in water. Of course the largest drawback to that is that you have to be careful of the temp at which you store it.

storage is not a problem. we have a fridge. my column is Restek RTX-1, and my start temperature is 35C. I don't know if I can try water.

Injecting water onto a GC can cause all sorts of problems. If you google acrolein you will very probably find what it is soluble in.

What's the method you use for acrolein analysis?

Propenal solubility?

I would suggest dioxane or ispropyl ether.

Benzyl alcohol?

Ethyl acetate, ethyl ether, probably DMSO if you want a reallyheavy solvent......
